What does End-of-Life Cups refer to?

<div>In order to preserve the environment and create a better quality of life for future generations, Huskee is committed to making sustainable and safe products. Huskee has put a lot of effort into the development of the design, as well as making sure that the products we make meet the regulatory requirements for the countries in which we sell. To ensure compliance with global food contact materials regulatory requirements, Huskee products have been independently tested and certified by independent accredited testing laboratories. These tests are designed to determine if there are any hazardous chemicals leaching occurring.</div><div>&#xA0;</div><div>Our design decisions are based on careful consideration of material options and Huskee products are free from BPA, PFAS, phthalates, melamine and heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury and hexavalent chromium) and are approved components for food contact applications commonly used in the market.</div>

<div>About 10,000 highly persistent chemicals are classified as PFAS (perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances). PFAS are global pollutants that threaten both human and animal health due to their high persistence and mobility. They are natural chemicals that do not exist in nature and because they do not degrade in the environment and can move through the soil, they are called <strong><em>&quot;forever chemicals.&quot;</em></strong></div><div>&#xA0;</div><div>The inclusion (intentional or unintentional) of PFAS chemicals in products and packaging is a growing concern worldwide. For packaging, while this mainly involves fiber-based food-contact disposable packaging (eg. bagasse coffee cups and lids), you might want assurance that it isn&apos;t present in Huskee products. Why do Huskee Products contain plastic?

<p>If your HuskeeCup is showing signs of wear and tear and you feel there is a compromise on hygiene, just hand it back to your local HuskeeSwap site and let them know. You will still get a fresh cup with your order. They will put this cup aside and arrange the collection and replacement of their stock with the HuskeeSwap team.</p><p>Once collected, it will be sent to a repurposing facility making HuskeeSwap the ultimate closed loop ecosystem!</p><p>&#xA0;</p>

How do I dispose of a HuskeeCup at the end of its life?

HuskeeCups are made in close proximity to where we source coffee husk from.

<p id="isPasted">We often get questions about where we manufacture our cups and why we do not manufacture our products locally to be more sustainable.&#xA0;</p><p>HuskeeCups are manufactured in a facility based in China which is located within close proximity to rural southwest China where we source our coffee husk. Here are Huskee&apos;s sustainability considerations for this:</p><ol><li style="font-size: 14px;">An internal LCA conducted in 2020 by <a href="https://edgeenvironment.com/us/about-us/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span style="color: rgb(44, 130, 201);">Edge Environment</span></a> identified that the biggest emissions savings that could be actioned was locating the husk source and manufacture as close as possible. This significantly reduces emissions costs of transporting many tonnes of husk. We source husk from coffee farms in China, and this is something we have now completed.</li><li style="font-size: 14px;">With worldwide distribution at over 2,000 retailers and wholesalers, manufacture in China allows us the biggest efficiencies in transport miles, costs, and emissions savings.</li><li style="font-size: 14px;">We continue to explore localised manufacturing opportunities in other regions on a case by case basis for viability, favourable policy, and improved sustainability outcomes</li></ol><p>Operational sustainability is comprised of a lot of complex factors and considerations, not only if something is local.&#xA0;<br>To understand the full scope of considerations, a recent study was conducted by the Dutch sustainability consultancy <a href="https://phifactory.com/en/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span style="color: rgb(44, 130, 201);">PHI Factory</span></a>, in which we participated.
